Cathedral Church of St. Spirit

This Gothic red-brick cathedral with tree aisles comes from the beginning of the 14th century. The stained windows were painted by Jan Z. Quast to the design of J. Scheiwl. The main aisle is dominated by a Neo-Gothic altar designed by E.Bložek in 1940. The cathedral has much more to offer e.g. a 15th century tin baptistery, probably one of the oldest of its kind in Bohemia, coming from the Podlažice monastery, then an altarpiece showing St. Anthony painted by an outstanding Baroque painter Petr Brandl and finally a Late Gothic altar in the south aisle. So called, Royal entrance with a small hall through which the kings were once entering the cathedral is on the southern side. The towers hide a number of valueless bells the biggest of which are Orel(Eagle) and Žebrák (Beggar) coming from 1496 and 1538 respectively.
  • Jirásek's Gardens

The gardens are situated on a triangular area bounded by the confluence of the Elbe and Orlice rivers. You will find there a number of rare tree species, the remains of the military fortification and St. Nicolas wooden Church from the beginning of the16th century.
